Illegal Aliens, Immigration, and Disgust

DISCLAIMER: This may offend some people. I apologize ahead of time.

I was born in Mexico (therefore I am Mexican). I know I may not look like it to some people, but it’s true. I was brought to the United States illegally when I was about 2-3 years old and have been here since.

My family and I continued to be a “wetbacks” until the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Until then I never truly understood a lot of things we did in attempts to keep us from being deported.

Needless to say I have my personal biases on the immigration topic. I have come to the conclusion in my journey that despite any laws that are in place, some people will risk their lives to improve their situation.

My mother brought us across as little kids knowing she was breaking some laws. Some may call her stupid, I would call her brave and will be eternally be grateful for her sacrifices.

Today I came across this article from Reuters and found out that the Mexican cartel is kidnapping migrants on their way to the United States and holding them for ransom. To say I was disgusted and ashamed is an understatement.  Although I make every effort to maintain a positive outlook on life, cold hard reality sometimes slaps me on the face.

Apparently the cartels kidnap and then demand a ransom from the families of the hostages and kill them if they do not receive their money promptly. They are demanding money from broke people! And apparently it’s a great business model since Arizona says it is a 2 billion dollar industry in their state alone. Disgusted.

The craziest thing is that nothing will stop then from taking these risks. NOTHING!

Not this economy. Not low wages. 2o people in a 2 bedroom apartment? Nope. Cramming 10 people to a car? Nope. The possibility of starving on their way here? Not at all.  Laws? Give me a break. Their own people kidnapping them and holding them for ransom? They may think harder about it, but not stop them.

Nothing will stop them as long as there is a demand. I can’t help but chuckle when I hear some of the arguments against illegal immigration.

I respect the law but I repeat myself, it will not stop until there is not a demand. That is the universal law not just my belief.

I refuse to accept mediocrity and be lazy knowing that my mother risked our lives to get here, and others risk their lives daily for an opportunity.

dude, it’s beyond disgusting what the cartels are doing and continue to do. I don’t see the USA doing anything about it. Why would they?

My parents came here illegally too , although they did become citizens, the discrimination was still the same. So Bush wanted to build a wall?

Maybe we should try to build some bridges first.

The reality is that this type of crimes against Mexicanos have been accureing for many years now. And it’s sad because we Mexicanos are doing it to ourselves. Once we know a little bit of english and get established we forget to help those that still need us. I my self was brought into the United States when I was only 2 yrs old and regarless of what any document may say I am 100 % Mexicana and I appreciate the struggle my mother went throu for myself and my brothers but the reality is that not every child in Mexico is blessed with a mother like my own. I appreciate you opening Americas eyes to whats going on to the Mexicanos. And please continue to do so lets help eachother out. Because today in 2009 Mexicanos have become SALVAS to the USA and to ourselves. VIVA EL AMOR Y LOS MEXICANOS

      Nena,
Thank you for taking the time to write your thoughts.

I will continue to write and continue to share my world, my beliefs, and my lessons.

I use the words Aliens and Wetbacks more to mock those that attempt to insult me.

“Illegal Aliens” obviously refers to the way the government has labeled us. “Wetbacks” refers to the racist label that has been assigned. I do not give those words power. Brohahaha! :)
